How it all started...

The Ipswich Youth Steel band is a project designed to get young people involved in learning about traditional music from the Caribbean. Trevor Jones was asked to form the band which was completed successfully in 2005 and has been growing strong ever since.

The Students are all taught to read simplified music score for pans and have a broad repertoire of music ranging from calypso, soca, and popular culture favourites.

The band is made up of 9-19 year olds and currently has 12 members. Trevor Jones is the band leader while his son Ashton Jones is the band musical arranger. The band rehearses every week, and performs locally for fetes, parties and fundraising events. The band have also performed for BBC Radio Suffolk, Town 102, BBC Look East, Children in need and the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce
